2019 Wk 0 - Noooooooo

After publishing the last post I went to trim my tiny blocks - and every single one was too small!  So it seems (seams!) that my 1/4" foot is nothing of the sort!

So I spent most of this evening watching rubbish telly with himself, unsewing - groan!

So they now look like this

and "just" need to be pressed and started again!

However I have finished the hand-sewing-at-mother-in-law's flimsy

and what's more - it's quilted!

I love the circular quilting that so many 'real' quilters have been showing, but I know my quilting isn't up to the tight accurate spiral at the start . . . but it occurred to me that Lizzie's is!  So she did the first 8 inches (her largest hoop) and I then took over - it's much easier when the spitrail is further out!!

I also played with another rope bowl.  Again an elongated shape as the start is much easier with a long line rather than a tight spiral (see the theme here?)  I copied Kathy's finished this time as I have plenty of leather left in a box.  It would have been better if it didn't pucker but I can live with it!

2018 Wk 42 Leather and Poppies

Crafty Church ladies worked on poppies for the Horton lads who went to WW1, and the one lass that died locally in a ammunition factory explosion.  All the names have been written on these poppies, one for each, and pinned to these wooden crosses.  Carolyn is working on mounting all the information sheets she has put together, again one for each.

And I have been patchworking leather!  A customer de-constructed the seat covers from a leather sofa and cut them to size to fit together.  He wants them as a backdrop for his pet photography business

He took photos of the 4 sections so I could plan the best route to joining them

and we started sewing them together with a zigzag stitch

and they are looking good - we are about 2.5 hours in and about 1/3 of the way through

 LOTS more of these left!

2018 wk 7 - Irish retreat

I’m at Jackie’s for a lovely long weekend.  Sewing has been a bit slow but chat and catchup and cuppas has more than filled any gaps!!!

We made cork boxy pouches

We made a leather zippy pouch and coin purse

We made a blocking octagon so these yummy crocheted octies can be blocked before being joined

And we’ve worked out a way to join these La Passigalia cogs

Jackie had made a knitting project bag (from Attic 24) but it stretched as stuff was added.  We folded a length of fabric into four, then drew around the bag also folded in 4 and ended up with this shape.  We’ve stitched into a lining shape and are now joining it to the bag.

2017 Wk 50 - gifts for men

I made zippy pouches for the girls at work, but struggled with what to make for the Manager, James.

I decided he needed a coin purse (he never has cash on him so if I go to get him lunch we spend days reminding him that he owes me money, so a small pouch that holds £3 (meal deal from Tesco) seemed ideal)

I bought some leather scraps and got prototyping. I started with a triangle one I saw on Pinterest, but didn't like the knot in the elastic. Also I tried pyrography but that distorted the flap.

V2 had an elastic band stitched in, but I didn't like that either, and the embroidery placement didn't work

V3 worked much better, but Brian was worried the flap may come untucked

So V4 had a different flap shape which seems to work well

Except Brian has now ruined it . . . by telling me it would be great for condoms

It's too late to make something else so it looks as if James will be getting a condom pouch for Christmas! I'll put £3 in to convince him it IS a coin pouch!

2017 Wk 48 - A bit of sewing time

Not really sure what happened to the last three weeks - I was sure not much sewing happened, but looking at photos maybe it was just not much blogging??
This black and white quilt got assembled: just the final hand stitching of the binding until I can call it done

I even quilted it!

And a small I-spy quilt was made for a friend who has just become a grandma.

I painted the girls'house on a bag a while ago - we put stuff in it that is due to go to their house. They wanted one with our house on it for stuff they are returning. Our house may be 'home' but it isn't picture pretty, so instead I took advantage of the fact that it's number 4B and painted this

At Crafty Church I worked a bit on the two quilts, did some crochet on the world's slowest blanket,

and also some English Paper Piecing for a Christmas Star class sample

I started some zippy pouches as Christmas pressies for colleagues

Some shopping has also happened!

piping cord ready to have another go at rope bowls

Leather because . . . well I'm not quite sure but it was a bargain!!!

I have had a go at making a little change purse - suitable for blokes? I'm not sure, maybe a pyrography initial would help? Watch this space
