2019 Wk 10 & 11 - a bit of a catch up

Just a quick whiz through some photos from the last two weeks, then we'll see what I've been up to!

I've been stitching patches for people who join the Windsor Homeless project sleep out in a few weeks time - and stitched the design straight onto a sweatshirt for myself and other colleagues who are doing the Sleep Out (if you are able to sponsor us the link is https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/bentahickley2019

The pile of EPP plus blocks is growing (another 27 to go!)

And the girls at Crafty Church wanted to make reversible tote bags  . . . so they did - not bad for 10 and 8 year olds!!!

 And I made myself a linen dress!  I love the colour - just need some warm weather to wear it now

Pocket and hem trim in this beautiful print.

Richmond and Kew saw a couple of charity quilts being made.  These blocks were made with some fabric from a FQ bundle and other fabrics added - everyone made a block - some great variations!

 And these are string blocks made using flip and stitch onto a square from an A4 sheet (so paper foundation).  Lovely cheerful blocks

And finally my friend Linda finished a quilt made from blocks we cut from her late Dad's shirts - it's brilliant, well done Linda!

2017 Wk 9 - Mostly Chertsey

I had a lovely Friday afternoon at Chertsey museum. The show and tell creations were amazing - especially Rhona's which combined spring blocks and kantha stitching!

The finished blocks are looking fab together!

But Friday's topic was fabric flowers, and although they all started from the same sample, they have all taken the idea and made very individual flowers.  Click HERE for a PDF with the class' instruction sheet

As for me, I spent all Thursday at work with no computers - and we are virtually a paper free office, so there was *nothing* to do . . . Luckily I keep an emergency sewing kit in the car, so I sewed strips and rectangles together by hand to make this - I could have done with an ironing board too!

The one where I started a rainbow

You know if you have lots of UFOs you should really finish *something* before you start something new? Yeah, I laughed too, and then I pulled these rainbow fabrics

And then I cut the new greys into 2.5" strips

And then the guilt (and the mess) finally won and I finished the April calendar block

So you'll have to wait to see my rainbow plan!

The one where I did *more* machine embroidery and some quilting

You really don't expect *more* photos of preschool uniforms I hope?  I'm getting a little fed up with them - 44 down, 31 to go!!!

However the HST and Strings / £7 quilt has moved along and now looks like this

I've done some liberated (free range) quilting in the solids . . .

using a lovely variegated thread . . .

However, my drawer of fabric strings doesn't seem to have gone down AT ALL!!!

Not much time for sewing today, (appointments in town and a visit to mum), but I did get the solid & strings HSTs stitched, trimmed and pressed.

I'm really happy with how it's looking

The one where I didn't have to be sociable

I got home from work to an empty house - shovelled in some food and then off to the sewing room!!!

 

If you're my friend on Facebook you might have seen these blocks that the Richmond & Kew ladies made on Monday night

 

There were some fabric strips kept over so several of us took some home to make more - and I finished four tonight - these will all be made into project Linus quilts

 

I also did a bit of work on a tutorial for a two zip pouch like this one, but that'll be a post for another day.

In the meantime I'm counting down the days until school breaks up (just six more days) and celebrating Jackie having today finished the chemo part of her treatment, and her grandchild not choosing to arrive just yet!!!!
