2021 Week 31

 How is it August already???

Next month one of our two village summer fairs will be returning after two years - the theme is Hatland so I thought a ginger with lots of hats was a good way to while away a few hours!

Lisa finished this awesome crochet blanket and promptly gave it to Niki on long term loan (she's fed up with it but knows she will fall in love with it again so they'll swap next time she finishes something!)

Lynne gave me some rhubarb - a better crop than mine!!!

Together they made a delicious crumble

Stitch started back on Saturday - so lovely to meet people in real life!!!  Not many pics, but lots of organising and sorting, and a little bit of chatting!!!

Crafty Church also started back on Saturday (and some of us had a picnic between!) Again, fab to see so many people and an amazing show and tell (and disgracefully no photos)

We had patchworking, embroidery, knitting, crochet, painting . . . and funnily enough a load more chatting!

An embroidery for one customer

And a label for another

And a Hug for a young Ginger fan who has COVID so cant have any real hugs

And this one (on the right) was bridesmaid again at another lovely wedding . . .

So a few more gingers and tissue packs

And finally another #Craftivism Ginger for World Drowning Prevention Day

2021 Week 5

Well that was a week and a half!

This single Ginger was designed to promote A children's mental health campaign in the two villages.

The design was approved . . .

The felt was delivered . . .

And I was in a different sort of lockdown for about 9 days

I treated myself with being allowed to do something different every 50 Gingers

This was the half way point (I didn't photograph the full number: as soon as the last one was finished I delivered them!)

Some of my 'rewards' were also Gingers LOL!  These two netball players

These prizes in a village Valentine's competition

And these to represent this month's challenge:

We had a live cook along session where we made chocolate chip cookies

Yum!!!

And future bake offs cover pancakes,

cakes,

and around the world dishes, so this one has Norwegian waffles (served with whipped cream and jam made from lingonberries)

Another "between the Gingers" project was to use this up: It's a twist of sari scraps: mostly between 2 and 3 foot long.  I bought this at the last quilt show I went to (shows how long ago LOL) and I finally untwisted it to see what I'd bought.  I think there was a plan to make pompoms, then a thought about a crochet basket.  It turned out they weren't separate strips, but rather were joined end to end to make one long strip.

So I sat opposite Lizzie (tending to her needs every 4 or 5 minutes), wrapping sari strips around rope and zigzagging the whole lot together . . . and I love the result far more than pompoms or a small crochet basket!  I now have an ideal basket for my crochet when I get it back (I did try to cast on but I'm useless at it, so one of the church  ladies is doing it for me!!!)

2020 Wk 20 - still out of routine!

I still don't feel in the rhythm of this new-normal, so blogging doesn't occur to me very often - I do refer to this a lot when I need to remind myself about things that I have made so it annoys me when I haven't blogged!!

So here is an update for the last few weeks!

We have been making a "Caring Snake" ... painting stones and adding them to the body of a snake!  Afterwards its going to be set into concrete and treated as a permanent reminder of how we coped with the pandemic.  I did a Ginger (of course) and a mandala sort of design, then two to represent Stitch and Crafty Church.  Sammi Snake is getting longer every day!

I've been asked to design this an an embroidery - gulp!

This is the screen shot of the draft design - more details need to be added now!
We planted some rhubarb earlier in the year :the one stalk made probably the world's smallest crumble, but it was delicious!!!

I usually make I-spy quilts with a plain square to embroider a name on, but completely forgot with this one.  It will go to Linus quilts, but just in case it doesn't make any sense to them I embroidered "I spy with my little eye something beginning with ..." on it!

The Ginger Auction has finished - phew!  There was a LOT of Facebook admin involved!  But worth it as they raised well over £1000 pounds!!!

I thought I'd finished with them for a while, but this hexi flower ginger was waiting to be designed!!!

Aswas this sailor!

Another I Spy quilt has been finished, embroidered and delivered to Grandma: Hello baby Kyron

And this summer quilt (coverlet) has been finished and has received the kitty seal of approval!

2020 Wk 19 - sorting stuff!

I have dug out various UFOs that have been stored in all sorts of places.  This pile is flimsies waiting to be attached to fleece

This pile is waiting to be hand quilted or hand finished

This one was a quick win - I quilted it whilst listening to an audio book this afternoon, whilst also attending to Lizzie with her embroidery, and the binding was already cut so that has now been attached - another hour or so in front of the TV and this will be finished.  I cant find that I've blogged about it before: I am fairly sure they are Aldi fabrics from Jackie.  Gorgeous bright spring colours

It can join the various piles of stuff in the sitting room: you might have thought I was content with having the biggest room in the house for my sewing room but that is clearly not enough room!!!

Lizzie has been working on pre-school polo shirts: It is really lovely not to be working on the burgundy for a change!

I have finally completed the last dark row of this and have decided to call it a day.  It is in the flimsie pile

A quick make: my niece in Norway had her second baby last week.  I made this quilt for number 1, Saga, and thoroughly enjoyed embroidering her name in usual letters and how it would be written in Viking runes, and also in runes type letters.  Her new sister is Theia, and Great Grandmother explains "Both names have a mythological background: Nordic and Greek, fit together well: Saga and Theia, it seems they have made a good choice."

So having gone Viking on Saga's quilt I felt I have the opportunity to go Greek on Theia's!  There is even a small patch of Greek fabric!

And I embroidered her name in Greek looking letters, normal letters and Greek letters!

I will post it with crossed fingers: things are looking better on that front.  The first American quilt was delivered and well received (Step Mom's comment is on this post) and the Irish quilt has been received, and the second American quilt is being tracked.  The Aussie quilt - no news :-(

Basil has been stitched back together and I made him a onesie to protect him for damage for a while

I've been doing a bit of baking - Cheesie Marmite swirls went down well at the VE Day party, along with the bunting made for the Queen's birthday 4 years ago

And Kay and I made no-knead bread which was better than expected

And husband and I went out, together, in public, and saw people!!!!

Not quite a date night, and not breaking any rules ...

We went and gave blood!

April 2026

Welcome to my April furtle My orange car was replaced by a seafoam green car: our first brand new car, and our first all electric car: quit...
